    COVID-19 Vaccination Woes in Singapore

    Get PDF
This study discusses the COVID-19 vaccination program in Singapore including the policies implemented by the government and how its residents react to these actions. We aim to determine the impact of the perception of government policies, personal beliefs, and awareness of vaccine efficacy rates on the willingness to take vaccination, the source of COVID-19 information, holding demographic variables such as age and gender constant. Surveys will be conducted for Singapore residents eligible for the vaccine, consisting of two groups of strata: vaccinated and unvaccinated. The use of statistics and regression analysis for the data collected would help the research to conclude on the relationships between the factors and vaccination willingness. Our preliminary survey, consisting of 19 responses, suggests that information from informal channels such as messaging applications, notably Whatsapp and Telegram, negatively affects their vaccination willingness, but no relationship was identified between the respondents\u27 perception of the government policies and their willingness to take vaccination. The statistically insignificant results may be due to the small number of respondents suggesting the need for further studies. This study will help identify key factors that encourage or deter peoples’ decision to take vaccination. As a result, we hope to provide insights for future studies and policymakers on how to promote protection policies in times of outbreaks and pandemics

In recent years, divorce rates have increased to 4% globally (Ortiz-Ospina & Roser, 2020). Although there are many reasons leading to a divorce, our research is focusing on the sexual aspects that contribute to it. Since insufficient studies have been done on this topic, we are offering a regression analysis on the impact of sexual frequency and satisfaction on marital status. We have consolidated and sifted out pertinent data needed from the National Survey of Families and Households, National Survey of Midlife Development in the US

The Impact in the Costs of Raising a Child on Parents’ Decision to Have Children

    Get PDF
Singapore is the second country within the Asia Pacific that had the lowest birth rate percentiles in 2020, which calls for immediate attention. The objective of the research is to determine whether the cost of raising a child will affect the decision of having children in Singapore. The focal area of analysis is due to the gaps that were identified within past literature that had little to no data concerning the studied relationship. Therefore, the contribution is the bridging of the literature. The analysis will be concentrated on 34 OECD countries and a selection of non-OECD countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Thailand. The independent variables are the cost of raising children, cost of living, and income (GDP), and the dependent variable is the birth rate. A line graph will be used to analyze the performance of birth rate, regression analysis to identify factors that have influenced the birth rate, and a t-test to examine any statistically significant differences in the birth rate between developed and developing countries. The results aim to show if the costs of raising a child in Singapore have an effect on a parent’s decision of having children

In the study, we will conduct a quantitative research on the efficiency of digital technology use in schools

The Effectiveness of a Pro-Abstinence Sex Education Curriculum in Singapore

    Get PDF
In this study, we investigate the impact of the pro-abstinence Sex Education curriculum on youths in Singapore, by examining if there is a relationship between pro-abstinence Sex Education and the rates of Sexually Transmitted diseases (STD)/Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI). As the rates of STD/STI transmission have been on the rise, it is crucial that the system be re-evaluated to include a curriculum that educates on protection and contraception. To study this relationship, we compiled secondary data over a course of 20 to 30 years from the Ministry of Health (MOH), as well as past studies of the impact of pro-abstinence Sex Education on youths aged between 16 to 25. Despite no research about the effectiveness of Singapore’s sex education curriculum which was introduced in 2000, with multiple resources and research studies that were conducted in the United States, a comparison between the sex education curriculum in Singapore and reevaluated curriculums overseas can be made to draw a conclusion. Through regression analysis done on two different sets of data, we concluded that there was little to no difference in having a pro-abstinence Sex Education in decreasing the rate of both STI and STD

    Racism in Singapore

Racism is a prevalent issue around the world. In Singapore, concerns of discrimination against minority racial groups, such as Malays and Indians, have been raised with regards to companies’ employing procedures. However, there have been very little studies done on this issue. We have included relevant studies that support and do not support the claim of presence of racism in Singapore. In addition, we intend to replicate a previous study conducted by Marianne Bertrand and Sendhil Mullainathan (2004) in America by sending fabricated resumes to white-collared industries, such as the law, finance, and real estate firms in Singapore. These firms have been selected to represent jobs that do not require individuals to speak a different language or be of a certain ethnicity. The chosen firms are privatized and not under any current regulations regarding biased employment based on ethnicity. The fabricated resumes, which will use different names to distinguish their race, will be a test to determine whether a person’s employability is affected by their ethnicity

Impact of EVs on global warming

This research aims to define the relationship between electric vehicles (EVs) and the total CO2 emissions of the world. The research question is “does the transition to EVs actually make an impact on the total CO2 emissions”. The dependent variable for this research is the total carbon emissions of 195 countries from 1990 to 2019. This secondary data is obtained from the World Bank. The key independent variable used is the total number of Tesla EVs sold in each country from 1990 to 2019. We use Tesla as the company has an exceptionally high market share in the EV market. Another independent variable used is the energy consumption for each country from 1990 to 2019. We propose to collect the independent variables through an independent data collection company called “bright data”. The results from the preliminary regression analysis show that both the sales number of EVs and the energy consumption are significant. Every EV sold reduces the total CO2 emissions by 26,100 metric tonnes. Every 1 exajoule of energy consumed, increases the CO2 emissions by 30.958 billion metric tonnes. This huge difference in impact suggests that focusing on clean energy would be a better strategy than adopting EVs

Does playing different game genres affect obesity levels in gamers?

    Get PDF
This paper examines the relationship between playing various gaming genres and its effect on obesity. While previous studies have generally associated gaming with obesity, some have highlighted that certain game genres, exergames, require gamers to be physically active to play the game, leading to a reduction in gamers’ weight. To study this relationship, we conducted a survey and analyzed the collected data using ANOVA and Regression Analysis. Our preliminary findings from one-way ANOVA and two-way ANOVA with interaction, indicates significant association between game genre and engagement per session with BMI. The interaction between them suggests that the effect of game genre on BMI is dependent on the engagement per session, as the p-value of 6.54e-10 is less than the 5% significance level. Our regression results suggest that some game genres, such as Action and Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA), had a significant impact on obesity. However, first-person, puzzle/casual and simulation/sports games were not significantly associated with BMI. Our regression models also found that higher engagement in gaming per week and session correlates with a higher BMI. Our findings may offer game developers to collaborate with field experts, leading to evidence-based interventions that mitigate obesity risks and promote healthier gaming practices across game genres

Community-Based Rehabilitation\u27s Effectiveness In Reducing Singapore Juvenile Recidivism

    Get PDF
Singapore\u27s juvenile recidivism rate has climbed by around 5% since 2013, putting the country at risk of increased youth crime. With several mandatory rehabilitative programmes classified into two categories, Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and Institutional-Based Rehabilitation (IBR), it is unclear whether the mandatory individual rehabilitative programmes for offenders were actually effective in achieving their corrective goals. This proposal would undertake a regression analysis to compare the effectiveness of CBR and IBR programmes utilizing secondary data gathered by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and primary data from a survey. The survey will provide previously unstudied insights into the offender\u27s profile, conviction, rehabilitation path, recidivism, and attitudes toward the programmes\u27 effectiveness for a sample of approximately 7,150 Singaporean juveniles who have participated in or are currently participating in MSF\u27s mandatory rehabilitative programmes. The regression analysis will be run to determine which class of programme is more important between IBR and CBR, as well as which specific programmes within those two classes are more effective at reducing reoffending juveniles. Understanding the effectiveness of these programmes may result in additional improvements or the abolition of inefficient mandated rehabilitative programmes that are expensive to implement. Finally, rehabilitation programmes in Singapore should be strengthened in order to preserve and nurture our younger generations, who are crucial to the country\u27s future growth and development

Wage-Productivity Analysis of U.S. Domestic Airlines

    Get PDF
This study examines the impact of wages on productivity by examining US domestic airlines. Current literature places emphasis on jobs conducted in-flight, specifically pilots and cabin crew. This paper considers all job titles involved in the operations of the airline, including executives and management. Existing research focuses on factors such as governance, domestic economic level, and personal attributes such as intrinsic motivation, gender, and age. There is insufficient research regarding the relationship between wage and productivity. Thus, it is uncertain if high wage leads to high productivity. Preliminary findings suggest higher wage equates to higher productivity
